Pregled razvoja teorije paritete kupne moči pričenjamo v 16. stoletju, ko so pariteto kupne moči prvič sprva posredno (Azpilcueta de Navarro) in nato neposredno (Domingo de Banez in Juan de Lugo) omenjali misleci španske šole v Salamanci.

Review of the development of the purchasing power parity theory begins in the 16th century, when the purchasing power parity theory was first introduced indirectly (by Azpilcueta de Navarro) and then directly (by Domingo de Banez and Juan de Lugo) by Spanish scholars in Salamanca. Some authors give credit for the theory to Gerrard de Malynes from the beginning of the 17th century. After an overview of his work, the contribution of bullionists and English classical economists (Mill, Goschen, and Marshall) is illustrated. The article concludes with a survey of Cassel’s theory of purchasing power parity.
